Plantation of 6.5 hectares of pecan trees in Lot-et-Garonne
Located in the heart of Lot-et-Garonne, in Gontaud-de-Nogaret, this project unfolds within a region renowned for its rolling landscapes, temperate climate, and rich agricultural heritage. The area benefits from fertile soils and a long-standing tradition of fruit and nut cultivation, supported by the confluence of the Garonne and local rivers. Mild weather, with warm summers and moderate winters, encourages the development of orchards and specialized crops. The local economy is deeply rooted in agriculture, with a rising emphasis on organic farming and short supply chains, thus energizing rural communities and enhancing local products.
SCEA Lamaratone continues a family legacy focused on innovation and agricultural diversification. The farm has evolved over generations, embracing environmentally friendly practices and awarded Organic Agriculture Certification in 2023. This marks a strategic shift towards sustainability, maximizing local resources and integrating into the region’s agroecological dynamic.
This project led by Anthony Tesson, son of André Tesson, directly echoes the orchards of his father. A extremely rare culture in France, these pecan nut orchards not only increase carbon storage on the farm, but also to promote an agricultural activity respectful of the environment. Anthony Tesson plans on increasing the area of his orchard by 6.5 Ha of pecan nuts in Organic Farming and thus allow the storage of nearly 356.61 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 20 years*.
The action levers are chosen for their ability to store carbon, avoid soil disturbances and preserve biodiversity and water resources. In 2023, the farm will receive Organic Agriculture (AB) certification, proof of its commitment. From a socio-economic point of view, the production of the orchard makes it possible to limit imports of pecan nuts and promote local agriculture.
