Located in Lot-et-Garonne, in the small town of Labretonie, the pecan nut orchards of André Tesson are unique. Spread over a 250-hectare farm, these orchards composed of walnut, plum, almond or hazelnut trees have replaced a former cereal land since 2018. This change was made at the request of André Tesson's two sons, who returned to the farm, in order to better adapt to global warming and its harmful effects. This change in practice, this plantation of pecans enables both the increase of carbon storage on the farm, but also to promote an agricultural activity that respects the environment. In total, it allows the storage of 191,52 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 20 years*.
The action levers are chosen for their ability to store carbon, avoid soil disturbances and preserve biodiversity and water resource. In 2023, the farm will receive Organic Agriculture (AB) certification, proof of its commitment. From a socio-economic perspective, the production of the orchard will limit imports of pecan nuts from abroad and thus promote local agriculture. This project is in the process of being financed by Adecco, the recruitment leader in France, in line with the environmental policy of reducing and offsetting its emissions.
