This project is located in Val d'Erdre-Auxence in Maine-et-Loire. Afforestation will take place in place of agricultural areas currently undervalued adjoining existing forests. This afforestation project will extend these forests by 9.3 hectares, using a diversified mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for winter 2023-2024, and will sequester 3031 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 6 different species were selected for the afforestation: sessile oak, downy oak, hornbeam, field maple, Atlas cedar and Laricio pine. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while remaining adapted to current conditions. Over 50% of the forest is made up of native hardwoods.
Socio-economic : PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation. In addition, a local forestry company has been selected to carry out the work.
Preservation of water resources : A pond present in the project area was taken into account in order to integrate it perfectly into this afforestation project. The aim is to ensure the long-term survival of these wetlands, which are vital for the local fauna.
