This 3.88-hectare reforestation project at Uzay-le-Venon in the Cher department will restore a forest stand damaged by a violent hailstorm in 2019, defoliating 90% of the oak crowns. As the oak foliage season was over at this time of year, they were unable to regrow their crowns. This climatic accident was followed by the drought and heatwave of 2019. The combination of these climatic factors greatly weakened the stands, leading first to severe decline in Scots pine and then in oak. In addition impact of hailstones on twigs has caused multiple lesions that no longer allow sap to circulate.
The project will store 1222 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 30 years*. It was decided to install a mix of species (sessile oak, Laricio pine, maritime pine and Taeda pine) better suited to prolonged hot periods.
Socio-economic : PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation.
Biodiversity: 4 different species are planted in equal parts and the contours of the area to be reforested will be preserved to maintain a forest atmosphere, while the plants grow.
* The final value of the estimate will be established only after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative decision on verification.
