This project is located in Montsûrs, Mayenne. The afforestation will take place in the place of former agricultural meadows with little value added, and adjoining existing forests. This afforestation project will extend these forests by 11.3 hectares, using a diversified mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for winter 2023-2024, and will sequester 3088 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity: 3 different species were selected for the afforestation: downy oak, sessile oak and field maple. The species chosen were designed to withstand global warming, while being adapted to current conditions. As a result, 100% of the woodland will be deciduous, and existing tree lines and hedges will be preserved.
Socio-economic: PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation, by a local forestry work company.
Soil preservation: The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage, to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
