This project is located in the commune of La Possonnière in Maine-et-Loire. Afforestation will take place in the place of grassland that is currently little used. This afforestation project will create 4 hectares of woodland, using a diverse mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for the winter of 2023-2024 and will sequester 1,513 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 5 different species have been selected for this afforestation: field maple, pubescent oak, hornbeam, Atlas cedar and Laricio pine. The species chosen were designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. More than 50% of the woodland is made up of native broadleaved trees.
Socio-economic : PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation. In addition, a local forestry company has been selected to carry out the work.
Soil conservation : The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
Preservation of water resources: no conifers will be planted near the watercourse adjoining the plot.
