This project is located in the commune of Baugé-en-Anjou in Maine-et-Loire. Afforestation will take place in the place of grassland that is currently little used. This afforestation project will create 3.88 hectares of forest, using a mix of Corsican Laricio pine and downy oak. Planting is scheduled for the winter of 2023-2024 and will sequester 1494 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Socio-economic : PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation. In addition, a local forestry company has been selected to carry out the work.
Soil conservation : The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
Biodiversity : This new woodland will strengthen an ecological corridor in the green network between Saint-Quentin-Lès-Beaurepaire and Clefs. This corridor is an area of great environmental interest, due to the combined presence of damp hedged meadows, woodland and a succession of watercourses (tributaries of the Loir). This same sector is also of particular importance for the local wildlife protection.
