Located in Sanilhac in the Dordogne, this afforestation will be carried out on 2 agricultural wastelands, surrounded by a surrounding forest and thus representing an area of 1.23 hectares.
With a wide variety of species planted: false acacia locust, alder, sessile oak and hornbeam, this project will allow the storage of 283 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 30 years*. But biodiversity is far from being the only quality of this afforestation.
Although carried out on a modest surface, this project is very rich in co-benefits.
Unlike other afforestation projects, this one is very favorable to biodiversity. It allows the introduction of a diversity of species with afforestation with 4 different species, 3 of which are indigenous. It also ensures the preservation of the already existing biodiversity with the maintenance of wooded borders near the plots. Through this action, ecological corridors are preserved.
The soils are respected because they are prepared according to the technique of potet worked, a practice consisting in decompacting a volume of soil only in the root development zone of the future plant.
This project is also very positive from a socio-economic point of view. The majority of companies employed for forestry work being located less than 50 km from the afforestation area, it thus brings economic added value at the scale of the territory.
The carbon sink was located on the territory of the urban community of Grand Périgueux, there is an improvement in air quality within the urban area.
Finally, afforestation will benefit from forest certification with adherence to sustainable management certification (PEFC, FSC) and forest insurance covering part of the reforestation costs in the event of fire or storm.
