Located in the heart of Lot-et-Garonne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the municipality of Cocumont is characterized by its rolling landscapes, diverse agricultural terroir, and a mild oceanic climate ideal for a wide range of crops. Historically shaped by agriculture and viticulture, Cocumont enjoys a rich rural tradition and a dynamic local fabric, where respect for the environment and the enhancement of natural resources are central.
The afforestation will take place on two meadow adjoining existing forests. This afforestation project will create 2.78 hectares of forest, with black locust. Planting is scheduled for the winter of 2024-2025 and will sequester 765 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
In terms of co-benefits:
Socio-economic: Local forestry stakeholders will be asked to work on the project.
Air quality: The planting will take place within the boundaries of a conurbation and will help to improve air quality in this more urban area.
Biodiversity: the plantation is made up of 100% deciduous trees and will not impact existing edges while expanding adjacent forests.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative decision on verification.
