Examples: diversity and locality of crop species, preservation of habitat for local flora and fauna, presence of beehives for pollination.
Examples: reduction in the use of chemical mineral fertilizers, phytosanitary products, measurement of crop needs in real time via predictive tools.
CarbonAgri project in Morbihan
In the current context of transition, supporting French cattle breeders means, on the one hand, reducing their greenhouse gas emissions through virtuous practices and, on the other hand, storing carbon in the soil through the development of meadows and pastures. This support for the development of the French sector also helps to avoid imports, which have a significant carbon footprint.
This farm, located in Guéhenno (56), has embarked on a transition in its practices based on an initial carbon audit and a 5-year action plan. This action plan will make it possible to avoid and store the estimated equivalent of 573 tonnes of CO2.*
The development of meadows and pastures, with a considerable improvement in the quality of food (fodder), and animal welfare because the animals are outside more. This also protects the animals against health and pathogenic impacts, because the more we take the animals outside, the less likely they are to be affected by diseases, which tend to develop indoors. These health impacts can be a scourge for the animal.
Optimized herd management to limit methane emissions. The life cycle of the animals, their number and renewal, their good health and development are all taken into account. The aim is to have a sensible herd configuration in terms of development and renewal, and to limit enteric greenhouse gas emissions, such as methane.
Planting hedgerows on the farm to encourage biodiversity, in particular the presence of pollinators and predators useful to agriculture.
Reduced fuel consumption on the farm.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative decision on verification.
