Bouchemaine, nestled on the banks of the Loire in Maine-et-Loire, is renowned for its exceptional natural heritage and history intertwined with the river. Located in the Pays de la Loire region, the area benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, ideal for agricultural and forestry diversity. Historically, Bouchemaine developed around farming, viticulture, and river commerce, while promoting its preserved natural landscapes. The Maine-et-Loire region is a leading player in French agriculture, with strong momentum in ecological transition and innovation in rural land management.
The afforestation will take place on former farmland between several existing woods. This afforestation project will link these woods and form an ecological corridor covering 9.4 hectares, using a diverse mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for the winter of 2024-2025 and will sequester 3045 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 3 different species have been selected for this afforestation: pubescent oak, hornbeam and laricio pine. The species chosen were designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. The existing woodland edges and hedges will also be preserved.
Socio-economic : A local forestry company has been selected to carry out the work. In addition, the plantation will be PEFC-certified.
Soil conservation : The plot will only be worked on the tree plantation line.
Air quality: This afforestation contributes to improving air quality in an urban area.
