Savennières, a renowned town in the Maine-et-Loire department in the Pays de la Loire region, is famous for its rolling landscapes, exceptional vineyards, and rich biodiversity. Located on the right bank of the Loire River, it enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, ideal for agriculture and forestry.
Maine-et-Loire, with its strong agricultural and forestry traditions, boasts a dynamic local economy, where the development of natural resources and environmental commitment are central regional priorities.
The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently undervalued. This afforestation project will create 8.7 hectares of forests, using a mix of species. Planting is planned for the winter of 2024-2025 and will sequester 3008 tonnes of CO2eq in 30 years*.
Biodiversity: 3 different species were selected to carry out this afforestation: sessile oak, Corsican pine and hornbeam. The species chosen were studied to resist global warming while being adapted to current conditions.
Socio-economic: PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation. In addition, a local forestry company was selected to carry out the work.
Air quality: This afforestation contributes to improving air quality in an urban area.
Soil preservation: The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage, to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in organic matter.
Preservation of water resources: No conifers will be planted near the regularly flooded ditch adjoining the plot.
