Mourens, a rural commune at the heart of Gironde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is spread across rolling landscapes typical of southwestern France. The territory, influenced by a mild and humid oceanic climate, is marked by a centuries-old agricultural tradition, where vines, meadows and cereal crops have long shaped the local economy.
The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently underdeveloped, next to an existing forest. This afforestation project will create 14.4 hectares of woodland, using a mix of tree species. The plantation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2024 / early 2025 and will sequester 3,958 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 3 different species have been selected for this afforestation: black locust, sessile oak and American red oak. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. 100% of the afforestation will therefore consist of broadleaved trees.
Socio-economic : Local forestry companies (less than 100km from the site) will be contracted to carry out the afforestation.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative verification decision.
