Creating a hardwood forest in Pas-de-Calais
This project is located in the commune of Verchocq in the Pas-De-Calais department. The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently little used. This afforestation project will create 2.15 hectares of woodland, using a diversified mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for late 2024 / early 2025 and will sequester 505 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 10 different species have been selected for this afforestation: sessile oak, American red oak, pubescent oak, plane maple, small-leaved lime, wild cherry, beech, heart-leaved alder, hornbeam and field maple. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. 100% of the afforestation will therefore consist of broadleaved trees.
Socio-economic : Local forestry companies (less than 50 km from the site) will be contracted to carry out the afforestation.
Soil conservation : The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
* The definitive value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative verification decision.
