Creating a hardwood forest in Pas-de-Calais
This project is located in the commune of Bezinghem in the Pas-De-Calais department. The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently little used. This afforestation project will create 6 hectares of woodland, using a diversified mix of tree species. The plantation is scheduled for completion in early 2025 and will sequester 1,688 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 11 different species were selected for this afforestation: sessile oak, pubescent oak, American red oak, small-leaved lime, plane maple, wild cherry, beech, heart-leaved alder, hornbeam, field maple and poplar. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. 100% of the afforestation will therefore consist of broadleaved trees.
Socio-economic : Local forestry companies (less than 50 km from the site) will be contracted to carry out the afforestation.
Soil conservation : The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative verification decision.
