This project is located in the municipality of Hugeville-en-Caux in Seine-Maritime. The afforestation will take place on currently underutilized agricultural land. This afforestation project will create 5 hectares of forest, using a diverse mix of tree species. Planting is planned for late 2025/early 2026 and will sequester 1,508 tons of CO2 equivalent over 30 years*.
Biodiversity: Five different tree species have been selected for this afforestation: sessile oak, downy oak, beech, chestnut, and hybrid larch. The chosen species have been studied for their resistance to climate change while being adapted to current conditions. Most of these species have historically been present in the area.
Socio-economic: Local forestry companies will be contracted for this afforestation, and PEFC certification of the afforestation is planned.
Soil conservation: The plot will be prepared for planting using strip tillage to minimize the impact on soil life and prevent the release of carbon from organic matter.
