This project is located in the commune of Etang-sur-Arroux in Saône-et-Loire. The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently underused. This afforestation project will create 2.2 hectares of forest, using a diversified mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for early 2025 and will sequester 770 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 5 different species have been selected for this afforestation: American red oak, black locust, evergreen sequoia, hornbeam and tulip tree. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions.
Soil conservation : The plantation will be planted in tilled pots to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
Water : As the plantation is located close to a body of water, the species chosen are adapted to grow on fresh or temporarily waterlogged soil.
