Located in the heart of Loire-Atlantique, within the vibrant region of Pays de la Loire, this afforestation project unfolds in the commune of Vallons-de-l'Erdre. The territory is shaped by a centuries-old rural and forestry heritage, distinguished by its rolling landscapes, lush meadows, and rich biodiversity. The region enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, ideal for mixed forests.
The afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently undervalued. This afforestation project will create 6,84 hectares of forests, using a mix of species. Planting is planned for early 2025 and will sequester 2056 tonnes of CO2eq in 30 years*.
Biodiversity: 3 different species were selected to carry out this afforestation: sessile oak, Corsican pine and hornbeam. The species chosen were studied to resist global warming while being adapted to current conditions.
Socio-economic: PEFC certification is planned to guarantee sustainable management of the plantation.
Soil preservation: The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage, to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in organic matter.
