Creating a hardwood forest in Pas-de-Calais
This project is located in the commune of Verchocq in the Pas-De-Calais department. Afforestation will take place on agricultural land that is currently underused. This afforestation project will create 3.53 hectares of woodland, using a diversified mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for early 2025 and will sequester 838 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity : 11 different species were selected for this afforestation: sessile oak, pubescent oak, hornbeam, small-leaved lime, plane maple, pedunculate oak, wild cherry, chestnut, American red oak, heart-leaved alder and field maple. The species chosen have been designed to withstand global warming while being adapted to current conditions. This diversity of species is particularly notable given the size of the project. 100% of the afforestation will therefore consist of broadleaved trees.
Socio-economic : Local forestry companies (less than 50 km from the site) will be contracted to carry out the afforestation.
Soil conservation : The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in the organic matter.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative decision on verification.
