Largo extends the lifespan of smartphones whilst creating local jobs.
After several years in the telecoms industry, Christophe and Frédéric, the co-founders of Largo, came to realise an alarming fact: 75% of a smartphone’s carbon footprint stems from its production. No fewer than 50 different metals are extracted from all corners of the globe to manufacture a new device, leading to the depletion of natural resources, the destruction of ecosystems, and massive pollution of water, air and soil, not to mention greenhouse gas emissions.
Faced with this environmental challenge, an alternative is needed: refurbishment. This is how Largo came into being. Five years on, its devices are sold in over 2,000 outlets, actively contributing to more responsible consumption.
Since its creation in 2016, Largo has positioned itself as a key player in the fight against electronic waste and planned obsolescence by giving devices a second life. To date, the company has refurbished nearly 500,000 smartphones, 100% (re)manufactured in France!
Largo employs over 87 staff in the region, all fully committed to the circular economy and decarbonising the digital sector.
Largo is committed to inclusion, recruiting over 7.5% of its staff from people with disabilities, whilst valuing the experience of older workers, who make up 10% of its workforce.
Thanks to carbon credits, Largo plans to increase its production capacity by hiring more staff, boost the number of refurbished devices, and amplify its impact in reducing electronic waste and carbon emissions.
In addition to a fully in-house industrial process, Largo is committed to a more responsible industry.
The company has forged partnerships with environmental and social organisations such as Les P’tits Doudous and Toit à Moi, and is constantly innovating to reduce its environmental footprint. This commitment is reflected in optimised waste management, controlled energy consumption and the introduction of a hybrid vehicle fleet.
Finally, Largo is strengthening its commitment by signing Bpifrance’s Coq Vert manifesto and joining the French Fab initiative, a symbol of the companies and industrial players working towards the development of a sustainable and competitive French industry.
