This project is located in the commune of Béville-le-Comte in Eure-et-Loir. The afforestation will take place on currently underdeveloped agricultural land and aims to complement the woods surrounding the nearby Château de Baronville, a listed historic monument. This afforestation project will create 39.29 hectares of forest, using a highly diverse mix of tree species. Large pathways will be created between the afforestation blocks to ensure the project is as well-integrated as possible with the architectural heritage. Planting is scheduled for late 2025/early 2026 and is expected to sequester 15 540 tons of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity: 11 different species were selected for this afforestation: sessile oak, downy oak, common walnut, black locust, small-leaved linden, service tree, European larch, poplar, turkey oak, American red oak, and Calabrian Corsican pine. The selected species were studied to be resistant to global warming while being adapted to current conditions.
Soil preservation: The plot will be prepared for planting with strip tillage to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing carbon contained in organic matter.
Water preservation: A stream partially borders the future plantation to the south. No conifers will be planted to the south to avoid altering its characteristics. In addition, the afforestation will help filter rainwater and prevent soil erosion.
Socioeconomic: PEFC certification is planned to ensure sustainable management of the plots.
