Located in Ille-et-Vilaine, in the heart of Brittany, the municipality of Romillé enjoys a temperate oceanic climate and a balance between hedgerows, forests and crops. This area, marked by a strong agricultural tradition, is also recognised for its commitment to preserving the landscape and regional biodiversity. Ille-et-Vilaine stands out for its protected natural areas, ecological diversity and economic dynamism, with the timber industry playing an important role in sustainable forest management and the fight against climate change.
The initial planting on this plot was decimated by a storm in November 2023, a climate risk present in the region, which is regularly affected by windy and stormy weather. The reforestation project consists of repopulating the 2.81-hectare area with Soligo and Vesten poplars. This project will sequester 951 tonnes of CO2eq over 20 years*.
Socio-economic: The plantation will be PEFC certified, supporting local employment, promoting sustainable wood industries and enhancing the economic attractiveness of rural areas.
Soil preparation: The poplars will be planted using a rotary tiller without prior soil preparation, to limit the impact on soil life and avoid releasing the carbon contained in organic matter.
Biodiversity: Planting will be done in a targeted manner only where it is necessary within the massif.
