Examples: territorial dynamics, societal demand, diversification of the activity, local sales/processing, working conditions, sharing of good practices.
Planting of 6.08 hectares to restore a forest damaged by a hailstorm followed by a pest infestation in the Dordogne region.
Located at the northern tip of the Dordogne, on the border with Gironde and Charente, La Roche-Chalais occupies a remarkable geographical crossroads. This commune, crossed by the Dronne river, is part of the rolling landscape of the Périgord Vert, renowned for its forests, farmland and winding rivers. The temperate oceanic climate promotes biodiversity but also exposes the area to extreme weather events, as evidenced by the hailstorm in June 2022 that destroyed 5% of the department's forest area. This context makes the Dordogne both vulnerable and a pioneer in ecological adaptation and sustainable resource management.
This 6.08-hectare reforestation project in La Roche-Chalais in the Dordogne region aims to restore a forest stand damaged by a violent hailstorm in June 2022, which affected around 5% of the forest area in the Dordogne. The impact of the hailstones on the branches caused significant damage, severely weakening the forest. The trees were subsequently attacked by Sphaeropsis sapinea, a fungus responsible for a pine disease known as ‘pine shoot dieback’, as well as by the stenograph, a pest insect.
The project will enable the storage of 1,272 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 30 years*. It was decided to plant a mixture of maritime pine and taeda pine, two resilient species suited to drought conditions and climate change in the South-West.
Socio-economic: A local forestry company will be commissioned to carry out the work. PEFC certification is planned to guarantee the sustainable management of the plantation.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative verification decision.
