Labastide-Chalosse, nestled in the heart of the Landes in southwestern France, is a typical village in the Chalosse region, renowned for its rich natural and cultural heritage. This Gascon land, shaped by millennia of sedimentation, features gentle hills, maritime pine forests, and lush meadows under a mild oceanic climate with warm summers and gentle winters. Historically, Chalosse has been a cradle of agriculture and livestock farming, with a local economy rooted in dairy production, cheese-making, and forestry.
This project involves creating 3,6 hectares of forest in place of low potential agricultural lands, using a mix of Taeda pine, black locust, and maritime pine. The plot is adjacent to a pre-existing forest area. Planting is scheduled for winter 2025/2026 and will sequester 1,038 tonnes of CO2eq over 30 years*.
Socio-economic: Local forestry companies will be commissioned for this afforestation project. In addition, PEFC certification of the afforestation is planned to ensure sustainable management.
Biodiversity: The species chosen have been studied to withstand global warming while being adapted to current soil and climate conditions.
