This project is situated in the municipalities of La Boissière-des-Landes and Nesmy in the south of the Vendée, in a rural area characterised by a mosaic of agricultural and woodland landscapes typical of the Vendée bocage. This area, which faces pressure from agricultural land use and the fragmentation of natural habitats, presents a significant challenge in terms of reforestation and ecological connectivity. The project fits into this context by making use of plots that are currently of limited productivity, directly adjoining an existing forest, thereby enhancing the landscape and ecological coherence of the area.
Afforestation will take place on plots that are currently underutilised, some of which adjoin an existing forest. This afforestation project will create 16.22 hectares of woodland, using a diverse mix of tree species. Planting is scheduled for early 2026 and will enable the sequestration of 5,467 tonnes of CO₂eq over 30 years*.
Biodiversity: Six different tree species were selected for this afforestation project: sessile oak, Atlas cedar, maritime pine and Koster poplar. The chosen species were selected for their resilience to global warming whilst being well-suited to current conditions. Furthermore, the existing woodland edges and rows of trees will be preserved.
Socio-economic: PEFC certification of the afforestation is planned.
