The family farm run by Jean-Baptiste Douzon, located in Lédat in the Lot-et-Garonne, has more than 100 years of existence and experience. Historically specialized in the cultivation of Agen prunes and walnuts, it has recently diversified into the cultivation of another nut: the chestnut, thanks to the support of Terres du Sud. This new specialization enables the farm to protect itself and prevent the ravages linked to climate change, in particular the freezing of hectares of crops, and to get out of the prune crisis linked to overproduction. This farm is part of a collective project of planting chestnut and walnut orchards that will extend over an area of 34.80 Ha in seven farms. It will thus allow the additional storage of 2,007 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 20 years*.
Jean-Baptiste Douzon plans to plant a new chestnut orchard of 3.6 Ha and thus add a storage of 181.65 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 20 years*. In terms of co-benefits, the project provides for grassing of 80% of the surface between the trees and allows the farmer to diversify his sources of income, with a new fruit species planted on the farm, which is also favorable to biodiversity. This project is in the process of being financed by Adecco, the leader in recruitment in France, in line with the environmental policy of reducing and offsetting its emissions.
