The familiar farm of Pierre Laborde and his son Benoît specializes in arboriculture and market gardening. It is located in Lot-et-Garonne and is part of a collective project of planting chestnut and walnut orchards that will extend over an area of 34.80 Ha in seven farms. Historically, the estate has grown field vegetables, such as tomatoes, lettuces, peppers and aubergines. Since 1987, the Labordes have diversified and started growing walnuts (12 Ha) and plum trees (6 Ha), and more recently chestnuts. The purpose of this diversification is to establish the sustainability of operations and to resist highly volatile prices.
Pierre and Benoît Laborde are planning the planting of 4.5 Ha of chestnut trees intended for industry with the Terre du Sud sector and thus the storage of 285.66 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 20 years*. In order to graze the grass under the orchards, Benoît Laborde has developed a sheep herd, allowing savings in inputs and creating added value thanks to the sheep present on the estate.
