Examples: reducing the frequency of soil cultivation, minimalist plot preparation, restoring organic matter and preserving soil microfauna.
Examples: diversity and locality of crop species, preservation of habitat for local flora and fauna, presence of beehives for pollination.
Examples: territorial dynamics, societal demand, diversification of the activity, local sales/processing, working conditions, sharing of good practices.
Examples: Consideration of wetlands, use of adapted species, drip-connected irrigation tools.
Agricultural walnut and hazelnut cooperative that brings together more than 350 producers in the western half of France.

Located in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the town of Saint-Sever lies at the heart of the Landes department, an area known for its diverse landscapes, from pine forests and fertile meadows to productive farmland. The Landes feature a mild oceanic climate, ideal for agriculture, and a history marked by innovation and the enhancement of local resources. Over time, the region has blended tradition and modernity, developing a strong rural economy centered on forestry, large-scale crops, and fruit production. The natural richness and soil diversity of Landes offer an ideal environment for planting new species, especially hazelnut trees, which contribute to agricultural diversification and climate resilience.
Mr. Paul Pinchauret Lamothe plans to start growing hazelnuts by planting 13.38 ha of orchards in October 2023. The selected plots were previously used for annual crops.
Planting permanent trees will sequester more CO2 throughout the year than a temporary crop. The project will store 572.69 tonnes of CO2 equivalent sur 20 ans*.
This project will enable hazelnut production to be relocated to France, as this product is currently mainly imported from abroad. Most of the farm's hazelnuts will be sold locally. The project will diversify the farm's sources of income.
The farm will diversify its crops with this plantation, which is favorable to biodiversity. In addition, the majority of the orchard will be weeded mechanically without the use of phytosanitary products.
The soil will also be able to sequester more CO2, as it will no longer be worked every year. What's more, this new plantation will require less fertilizer and treatments than previous crops. This new cultivation itinerary will help avoid emissions and make the project even more virtuous.
Water resources will be used sparingly, as the orchards are equipped with an underground drip irrigation system that allows for rational watering.
* The final value of the estimate will only be established after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative verification decision.
