Mr. Christophe Martinet plans to expand his crops by planting 4.8 ha of hazelnut trees during the winter of 2023/2024. The selected plots were previously used for annual crops.
Planting permanent trees will sequester more CO2 throughout the year than a temporary crop. The project will store 216.81 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 20 years*.
-The farm has held High Environmental Value (HVE) certification since 2020, which guarantees the reasoned and efficient management of its inputs (fertilizers, irrigation, phytosanitary products) as well as the preservation of hedges, tree alignments, woodland edges and other natural features of ecological interest around the plots.
-This project will enable hazelnut production to be relocated to France, as the product is currently mainly imported from abroad. The majority of the farm's hazelnut sales will be local.
-The soil will also be able to sequester more CO2, as it will no longer be worked every year. What's more, this new plantation will require less fertilizer and treatments than previous crops. This new cultivation itinerary will help avoid emissions and make the project even more virtuous.
-Water resources will be used sparingly, as the orchards are equipped with an underground drip irrigation system that allows for rational watering.
* The final value of the estimate will be established only after verification by an independent auditor and an administrative decision on verification.
